Steve Rech J.D.

Steve is a partner in the Vorys Houston office and a member of its litigation group.  He has 30 years of experience representing businesses involved in complex commercial disputes.  Steve has successfully tried dozens of both jury and non-jury cases in state and federal courts.  Notably, Steve obtained a defense verdict after a two and a half week jury trial in which a major gas marketer sought $50 million, claiming an index replacement clause had been triggered.  He also represented a major oil company in a week long arbitration concerning operating rights for a $1.0+ billion project in the Gulf of Mexico, and pursued an engineering, design and construction firm and its insurers through six weeks of arbitration in a case involving the design and construction of a 50 megawatt cogeneration facility.  Steve also proudly does pro bono work related to deafness. Among other meaningful services provided, he filed an amicus brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit on behalf of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf in a case involving the refusal to provide appropriate accommodations to a medical student with a profound hearing loss.  Steve is a past chair of the Houston Bar Association’s Litigation Section.  He has been named numerous times as one of Texas’ “Super Lawyers.”

Along with his wife Lee, Steve has been active in the world of hearing loss since his daughter was born profoundly deaf in 1997.  He was a member of the first board of directors of American Cochlear Implant Alliance, a also a member of the boards of directors of the Alexander Graham Bell Association, Houston Ear Research Foundation and Houston’s Center for Hearing and Speech.  Steve served as Chairman of the Board of Auditory Verbal International prior to its merging with Alexander Graham Bell Association.  Along with his knowledge of the importance of early intervention in babies with hearing loss, Steve brings strategic vision to the All Ears! organization.  He is committed to All Ears!’ future growth believing it to be a premier provider of listening and spoken language services.
